One of my FAVORITE things to decorate for the holidays (or any season really) is my dining room table! There’s just something about tablescapes that make me feel all warm & fuzzy! Whether I’m hosting for Christmas or not, I still love to dress up my table. Just makes the whole room feel so warm & magical!!
This year, when I was planning our table setup in my head, greens and garlands just kept poppin’ in there. So I went with it! That became the mental (and literal) centerpiece with which I designed everything around. Now, there’s no need to reinvent the wheel here! If you plan to replicate or pull inspiration from what I’m about to show, FEEL FREE TO USE WHATEVER GARLANDS YOU ALREADY HAVE!! No need to go buy more, trust me, I know how expensive they can be! Just use whatever you have lying around! And if it’s not full enough or “interesting” enough for you. I’ll show you some ways to dress it up, without breaking the bank! 😉 That’s actually exactly what I did with mine.
Any of you guys already planning (or trying to plan) your holiday outfits?? 🙋🏻🙋🏻 My excuse is that I’m traveling for the holidays so I’ll have to plan & pack in advance. 😆
But even if that weren’t the case, I’m sure I’d still be franticly searching Pinterest for ideas. Lol. I do it every year!
I noticed, while exercising my thumbs on the Pinterest search page, however, that most of what I was finding was a little too dressy for what I’m going for. Don’t get me wrong…I love a good sequins skirt as much as the next girl, but for our family Christmas, I thought that might be a bit much.
So…I thought some of you might be in that same pickle; looking for some holiday outfit inspo that’s a little more casual, still cute, and can be dressed up or down depending on your choice of accessories. So, if that’s you, then read on Sister! Continue reading →
So, as I’m sure you know, over the past few weeks I’ve shared a few holiday round ups from some of our FAVE budget friendly places to shop. Well, as much as I LOVE those retailers, I also wanted to put something together for y’all that might be a little more “gift giving friendly”. Not that giving (or getting) gifts from Target isn’t fabulous, BECAUSE IT IS!!! But I know sometimes, for Christmas we try & step up our game a little bit for certain people in our lives (Moms, Mother in Laws, Best Friends, Sisters, Grandmothers, Favorite Aunts, etc.)
Okay so I know it took me a little longer than planned to get this out to you guys (so sorry! Y’all know hosting out-of-town family for Thanksgiving can be a little cray. Fun, but cray). But anyway, it’s ready now!! And I’m not gonna lie. Narrowing this down to just a few items was SO HARD!!! I’m a Target junkie!! Seriously, I love EVERYTHING in that store.
You guys wanted me to do a quick round-up while Old Navy was having their HUGE 50% off sale! So I’ve gathered my faves here in this post for y’all! I’ve even included mens & kids items too! Happy Shopping Friends!!
So after a slight delay, I FINALLY finished my Affordable Christmas Finds from Wal-Mart (The Neutral Edition)!! You guys loved the Buffalo Plaid round-up so much I just knew I needed to put one together for my neutral-lovin’ folks out there.
Most of the items I chose are pretty self-explanatory as far as decorating goes, so I’ll keep this short & sweet today! However, if you do happen to have any questions about styling them, etc., please feel free to ask me in the comments below!! Have fun decorating friends!! Continue reading →
If you’re feelin’ the Buffalo Plaid pattern for Christmas this year, boy do I have a treat for you!! I’ve rounded up some ADORABLE buffalo check holiday decor, and guess what….it’s ALL from WAL-MART!!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼 Cute AND affordable?! Count me in!
Alright guys. Today we’re talking simplicity in our wardrobes.
Capsule wardrobes, for those who may be new to them, are all about keeping things simple. The basic principles are: only have things in your closet that you love, that fit you NOW, and that can generally be paired with anything else in your closet.
You’ll notice that capsules typically consist of lots of basic neutrals with just pops of patterns & colors sprinkled in here and there. This allows you to mix & match virtually your whole closet without having to spend too much money! It also makes getting dressed in the morning WAY easier! Gone are the days of standing in your closet staring for 20 minutes before you just start trying on absolutely anything that will fit! If you’ve kept up with your capsule, everything fits!
Now even though the idea of a capsule is to keep it simple , every once in a while, it may be helpful to do a little refresh that brings us back into the appropriate style decade (although, if you held on to things long enough, some of your wardrobe choices from the early 90s may very well be back in style right now, lol). The goal of a style refresh is to just add a few key pieces that will update your look but still allow you to continue wearing most of what you already have in your closet.
So, to help you guys visualize what I mean, I put this little style session together for y’all. This fall I shopped around to see what looks were “trending”, what out of those looks I actually liked, what was “me”, and what would easily fit into my existing capsule. This is what I came up with!
1 Outfit, 8 Different Ways
White Jeans, Plaid Flannel Top, Boots
By incorporating one or two additional pieces from my closet, I was able to create 7 more looks that spun off the first original outfit.
Cute Tan Sweater Added
Maroon Sweater with Plaid Wrapped Around Waist
Maroon Sweater Over Plaid Top
Maroon Sweater Around the Waist
Camel Cardigan Layered On
Maroon Cami Under Layered Sweater Look
White Jeans, Maroon Sweater, Mule Booties
Some of the pieces you see here are brand new (they’re the items I bought as part of my fall refresh), and some I’ve had for a while. I wanted to show you guys here that even with one basic outfit, you can create so many different looks! You can layer it, add color, change a sweater or a jacket, wear it with different shoes, make subtle changes that not only change the look, but allow you to get the most out of your wardrobe (and your wallet)! It’s about being smart with your choices when you’re shopping.
Tip: When you are out shopping, before you buy something, think to yourself, “Can I wear this with at least 5 other things I already own in my closet?” It’s a good way to just make sure that you’re staying true to your capsule’s “theme”, if you will.
I really like the way my capsule came together for fall!! The colors I added in are “in style” & trending, but I of course made a point to stay true to myself & my style! ☺️ The outfits above have been some of my go-to’s this season! I’m loving the chunky sweater look; especially when you can incorporate a fun plaid in there! In Chicago, layers are a must so I nearly always have a cardigan handy too! Again, the point is to you use items you already own to put together some different looks. But, if for some reason you don’t own some of these staples, or you’re still working on putting together a capsule for the first time, just make sure you’re thinking ahead as you buy. Get a visual, (kinda like the series I put together above) to help you decided which pieces will make the biggest impact & give you the biggest return. Can you see several different outfits coming together just by adding one piece? Or do you need to add a few of the basic staples to allow you to create the looks? Whatever the answer, just make sure you’re planning things out to help you stay on track!
Well, hopefully y’all found this helpful! Let me know in the comments below if you guys want to see more of these types of posts! What are some tips/tricks you guys use to stay on track with your capsule? I’d love to know!!
Alright you guys, I have to be honest. I’m probably not the craftiest blogger you follow, not by a long shot…but still, on occasion, I’ll bust out a good (and always easy) DIY that even I can be proud of, lol 😂.
What?🤷🏻♀️ I can be hard to please. 😬
Okay, so this DIY pumpkin craft only requires 4 supplies! Soooo easy!! Annnnnd I got all mine in one place. Can you guess where?? Michaelsof course! Lol! Y’all know I love me some Michaels!
Who loves decorating for Fall?? 🙋🏻🙋🏻🙋🏻 This girl does for sure!! But I also know how expensive it can be decorating year after year, season after season. Styles change, so do our tastes/preferences; & then add to that the constantly evolving trends…sometimes it feels like we need to spend an arm & a leg to decorate for the season. Well, thankfully, that’s just not true!! We can definitely give our homes a little seasonal refresh WITHOUT breaking the bank!
I don’t know exactly what it is about fall, but something about its arrival makes me want to decorate my house like I’m living in my own little personal Hobby Lobby! 😂 I’m talking hours of arranging & rearranging & figuring out where to put my 1,500 fall signs, 350,000 pumpkins, & 2.5 TONS of faux floral. Okay, maybe those numbers are slightly exaggerated (although if you ask my husband he’ll probably say they’re “dead-on-balls-accurate”— My Cousin Vinnie anyone??). The point is, I’m obsessed with this time of year, and pretty much remain in design-mode until early January. Sounds exhausting right? Well it can be, but I LOVE it!
Now, because I know not everyone goes all-out crazy like me, I decided to break up the fall blog posts into smaller (& less overwhelming 😂) chunks. So, last week I shared my Fall Tablescape, today we’re talking about Fall Signs; & coming soon, I’ll be sharing a fun Fall Round-Up (basically some simple & affordable ways to bring autumn indoors). Then, after that, we’ll be talking Halloween Table Ideas! So stay tuned for those.
