Oh hey! It’s me! I only completed this cheap and easy DIY project like 4 months ago so it’s totally appropriate to be sharing now, right? Sorry!!! I know, I’m sooooo bad at this! I finally got these hideous filing cabinets painted and styled right in time for baby showers, birthdays, and the holiday season and then just TOTALLY bailed on sharing them with y’all. Well, hopefully y’all don’t hate me and are still interested in seeing how I did it!
Howdy ho y’all! Your Weekly Steals for the second week of August have arrived!! (If you wanna go back and take a peek at Week 1, HERE it is!) I just can’t believe we’re cruising into Week 2 already!!🤯🤯🤯 I am NOT ready for the school year to start! I mean, it feels like summer just started! 😭😭😭 My daughter is going into 1st Grade in just a few days and we haven’t even moved into the new house yet! Because of that, we’re going to have to commute for the first 2 weeks, and y’all….I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be downright painful. Waking up a 6 year old and a 4 year old at 5:30am EVERY. DAY!!!! Send prayers. And coffee. And lots of wine.
Rugs. I’m not gonna lie y’all. When it comes to rugs…I always drop the ball! Not because I don’t know how to pick ’em, but because they’re always the LAST thing I think of when it comes to home decor. I am so ashamed to say I have like 3 rugs in my house right now! I know. It’s basically a crime. We have so much wood floor in our house and I only have, MAYBE, 5% of it covered. No wonder my house is cold and my feet always hurt, lol 😂.
Seriously though, I’ve been searching high and low for rugs over these last few weeks and was THRILLED to see that Amazon not only has GREAT options, but they’re SUPER affordable too!! And because I liked what I saw while I was perusing the infinite webspace that is The Amazon Marketplace (seriously, they have SO MUCH STUFF), I decided it might be helpful to go ahead and round-up my absolute fave farmhouse-style finds to share them with you guys as well!!
Okay so I know it took me a little longer than planned to get this out to you guys (so sorry! Y’all know hosting out-of-town family for Thanksgiving can be a little cray. Fun, but cray). But anyway, it’s ready now!! And I’m not gonna lie. Narrowing this down to just a few items was SO HARD!!! I’m a Target junkie!! Seriously, I love EVERYTHING in that store.
If you’re feelin’ the Buffalo Plaid pattern for Christmas this year, boy do I have a treat for you!! I’ve rounded up some ADORABLE buffalo check holiday decor, and guess what….it’s ALL from WAL-MART!!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼 Cute AND affordable?! Count me in!
Who loves decorating for Fall?? 🙋🏻🙋🏻🙋🏻 This girl does for sure!! But I also know how expensive it can be decorating year after year, season after season. Styles change, so do our tastes/preferences; & then add to that the constantly evolving trends…sometimes it feels like we need to spend an arm & a leg to decorate for the season. Well, thankfully, that’s just not true!! We can definitely give our homes a little seasonal refresh WITHOUT breaking the bank!
I don’t know exactly what it is about fall, but something about its arrival makes me want to decorate my house like I’m living in my own little personal Hobby Lobby! 😂 I’m talking hours of arranging & rearranging & figuring out where to put my 1,500 fall signs, 350,000 pumpkins, & 2.5 TONS of faux floral. Okay, maybe those numbers are slightly exaggerated (although if you ask my husband he’ll probably say they’re “dead-on-balls-accurate”— My Cousin Vinnie anyone??). The point is, I’m obsessed with this time of year, and pretty much remain in design-mode until early January. Sounds exhausting right? Well it can be, but I LOVE it!
Now, because I know not everyone goes all-out crazy like me, I decided to break up the fall blog posts into smaller (& less overwhelming 😂) chunks. So, last week I shared my Fall Tablescape, today we’re talking about Fall Signs; & coming soon, I’ll be sharing a fun Fall Round-Up (basically some simple & affordable ways to bring autumn indoors). Then, after that, we’ll be talking Halloween Table Ideas! So stay tuned for those.
Well, here we are again. That time of year when half the female population is holding on to those last few days of summer, & the other half is already knee deep into a pumpkin spice latte. I, as you already know, am included in the latter half. In fact, I literally had my first PSL of the season today. #noshame 😂
So, since all of us are either prepping & planning for fall or pulling pumpkins out of the attic as we speak, (there’s no third group here 😉, jk) I thought this would be the perfect time to share the fun fall tablescape I put together this year!
Now, because I like to mix things up from year to year, I decided this time it would be fun to incorporate some of the traditionally “fall colors” with some of my favorite “neutral-ish” colors. I say neutral-ish because some of them are still quite bold for me & my basic self. 😂
I can’t believe it. Our kitchen is finally done!!! The estimated 2.5 week renovation (which ACTUALLY took just under 5 weeks) wrapped up this past week & WE ARE THRILLED (and so relieved)!! Kitchen & bathroom renovations are no joke!! And my most frequently asked questions…
Was the experience painful? yes
Did you have to eat out every night? no, I wish! We (the hubs) grilled. Every. Single. Night
Would you do it again if you had to? hell yeah! I love the results!
Now, don’t get me wrong, things could most definitely have been worse. All things considered, it went pretty smoothly. It’s just that, keeping tiny fingers & toes out of the construction zone, making design choices without actually seeing them first, having our main home zones completely torn up, & the constant flow of people (strangers) in your home, sure can wear on ya after a while. Again, I’d do it all over in a heartbeat because it made SUCH a difference in the overall feel of our home; but….I just wanna make sure I’m giving any of you readers out there who are considering a major reno, the truth about what it’s like during construction.
Okay, now for the fun part. The before & after shots!! I’m pretty sure that’s why you’re all here so let’s do this!
Still a beautiful kitchen, just wanted it to be a little more “us”
Refrigerator & “butler’s pantry” view
This breakfast nook photo was taken from VHTStudios for the real estate listing
Now, just for fun, let’s take a look at the mock-ups I put together to help us visualize what the kitchen would actually look like when all was said & done!
To do this I just used Photoshop & a pic of our pre-renovated kitchen to create my design plans. I had so much fun putting these together! Plus, it was crazy helpful to to actually SEE our design choices before-hand. It gave me so much more confidence that we were making the best choices for our little fam! Not to mention, I was able to share it with the contractor as well, which was SUPER helpful!
Okay, so now that you’ve see the “vision”. Let’s see how it actually turned out!!
You like my daughter’s purple drawing of our family on the fridge? Lol! I couldn’t take it down!
I finally got to hang shiplap!!!
This used to be cabinetry but we removed it to do open shelving!
What do y’all think?? What a difference right?? HUGE transformation!! Here are a few more closer-up shots for you guys!
In love with these quartz countertops!!
We are absolutely THRILLED with the results!! It’s exactly what we were hoping for!! One of my favorite parts has to be the custom island! We love it so much & it’s got tons of storage (functionality was a MUST)! There are so many other fun details in this kitchen that you can’t see from these photos! I’m thinking about doing another in depth post about the renovation process (sneak peek of that below), & also some of the smaller details/design choices that went into this project (spice cabinet, hidden trash can, special outlets, cabinet lighting, etc.). What do y’all think, would you wanna see that?? Let me know in the comments below!!
Sneak Peek of the Kitchen Under Construction
Although it feels AMAZING now to have everything done, it definitely was NOT an easy process! If you’re thinking of doing a kitchen reno, or already have one in the works, feel free to reach out with any & all questions you may have!! I’m no expert, but if nothing else, I can at least relate to eating on paper plates for 5 weeks 😆!!
So the two most common questions I get (outside of “Will you please come decorate my house?” ← huge compliment when y’all ask me that btw) are around styling tiered trays & styling shelves. So, while I was doing a product shoot for one of our trays the other day, I had an idea to put a blog post together with my tiered tray styling methods. I figured this way y’all could just refer back to it anytime you need it! ❤️
Tiered trays…super on trend these days as far as farmhouse decor goes. The great thing about them is, if they don’t look super cute, nobody really cares 😂 (it’s not like you’ll get criticized for having an ugly tiered tray), lol. BUT…if they’re done well, PEOPLE LOVE THEM!!! They can add such fun, flair, & personality to your space & they’re awesome for parties & entertaining! (Here are a few shots of trays I’ve styled in the past)
